Islam teaches that good health is a blessing that all should work at achieving. Muslims are encouraged to eat nutritious healthy food and maintain physical, mental fitness and personal security.
Muslims partake in permissible food (Halal). Halal includes meats from animals without claws, personally hunted or slaughtered in the name of God. They are to avoid food that is not permitted (Haram) which includes pork.
Islam teaches us to eat in moderation and not to overeat, drink alcohol, smoke or use illicit drugs because these damage our health. Greed, lust, worry, confusion, uncontrolled desire, anger, arrogance, lying, fear or death can affect health.
Physical illness occurs when prayer, sleep, lifestyle and faith are out of balance.
Prophet Muhammad taught that “God has not created a disease without creating a cure for it.” He recommended natural remedies that included honey, dates, herbs, olives, camel milk, and black cumin.
Islam encourages us to pray for healing. Allah encourages us to partake medicine to sustain good health. Allah sends cure for every disease. In Sha Allah, we care but Allah heals, by God’s will.
